Understanding Ganglion Cyst

To start with let us look at what a ganglion cyst is. These are usually liquid filled growths that are found on joints. They can cause a lot of pain, and a lack of movement in the joint. As you already know, the human frame has many different joints and ganglion cysts are not restricted to any certain area. Though they will usually appear on fingers, wrists, elbows the feet and ankles. They are usually found on the hand or wrist joints.

Ganglion Cyst Removal

First of all we need to examine what is a ganglion cyst. This type of cyst is commonly found on either the back of the hand, the back of the wrist or on the palm side of the wrist, the fingers or less commonly on the foot, the ankle, the knee or rarely it can be found on the shoulder, the spine or even on the hip joints.

Ganglion Cyst Surgery

Ganglion cyst surgery is called a ganglionectomy. The procedure involves a surgeon removing the cyst from the affected area. A ganglion cyst is a fluid filled lump that can develop from a tendon sheath or around a joint. Often they are painless but sometimes they cause pain or numbness from pressing around the nerves of the area.

Lipoma

One such skin diseases is known as Epidermal Cyst, more popularly known as the Sebaceous cyst.

Mucous Cyst

Mucous cyst is a thin sac on the inner surface of the mouth; it is usually found to be painless and contains transparent fluid. A Mucous Cyst is known by many different names such as Mucous Retention Cyst, Ranula and Epulis. These mucous cysts are common on the inner surface of the lips and mouth and they appear as semitransparent fluid filled vesicles and they consist of a bluish transparent structure.

Pilonidal cyst

The term pilonidal comes from a Latin word pilusnidus. Pilus means hair and nidus is nest. From that term we get that the term pilonidal may have something to do with the hair.

A pilonidal cyst will mainly attack the posterior region, mainly the buttocks and will manifest in form of an abnormal pocket in the skin that will have some abnormal tissues which may even include hair and skin debris.

Ganglion Cyst Causes

Tumors have become a common occurrence and need to be handled with care. There are two types of tumors one is malignant and these are really harmful while some are benign and these really harmless but need to be handled with care so that they don’t develop into the dangerous type. Ganglion cysts are the harmless tumors that usually occur on the patients hand wrists.

The ganglion cyst is a lump or swelling that appears either on a joint or on the covering of a tendon. It is a fluid filled sac that is underneath the skin. They can be soft or hard, they may be painful but that commonly depends on where they are situated and they can grow larger or totally disappear all on their own. Other names for the ganglion cyst are; Bible cyst, wrist cyst or dorsal tendon cyst. They appear, most commonly on the back of the wrist, but they can appear on other joints such as the shoulder, elbow, hip, ankle of the foot. It resembles a sac of liquid, this liquid is a thick, clear, colorless and jelly like material. Usually, they are attached through a stalk to a tendon sheath that is on the hand, the tendon sheath will, in turn, be connected to a joint.
